This exceptional journey takes us deep into one of the planet’s last great wildernesses — a land where nature rules and humans are few and far between.

At this magical, frigid time of year, we’ll explore the wilds of Yukon and Alaska in search of gathering bald eagles, majestic Dall sheep, and a rich array of wildlife thriving across vast, breathtaking landscapes.

Our adventure will lead us through immense glacial valleys, boreal forests bathed in ever-changing light, and mountains carved by time. From roaring rivers to wind-swept tundra plateaus, each day will be a full immersion into raw, spectacular nature.

Here, wildlife encounters are unforgettable: eagles soaring above icy waters, sheep perched on rugged ridges, and maybe even the fleeting gaze of a lynx or a wolf. Grizzlies, too, can be spotted feasting on the last salmon before winter sets in for six long months.

And when night falls, another show begins — the northern lights dance across the sky, casting a magical glow over the wild landscape.

A rare and unforgettable journey, where vast open spaces, intimate wildlife moments, and the mystical atmosphere of the Far North come together.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Whitehorse
Welcome to the Yukon! Upon arrival in Whitehorse, you can reach your hotel via airport shuttle or taxi. Free time in the afternoon and evening to relax and explore the town at your own pace. (Meals not included)

Day 2 – Introduction & Transfer to the Lodge
In the morning, we’ll meet in the hotel lobby for a short welcome briefing and introduction. We’ll then make a quick stop in town for any personal supplies before hitting the road to our lakeside lodge at Kluane.
The scenic 2.5-hour drive along the legendary Alaska Highway offers breathtaking winter views and our first chances to spot wildlife.
Once we arrive, you’ll settle into your cozy cabin facing the mountains, while your guide prepares the evening meal.
Feel free to explore the area—and if the sky is clear, we may be treated to our first glimpse of the northern lights.

Day 3 – In Search of the Elusive Lynx
We’ll head out at dawn to track the elusive lynx in the forests around the lodge. Other species may also be present, offering great opportunities for wildlife encounters and photography.

Day 4 – A Day with the Dall Sheep
We dedicate this day to observing majestic Dall sheep. Depending on their location, we may need to hike up mountain slopes—so a moderate level of fitness is recommended.

Day 5 – Slim River Hike & Mountain Goats
We’ll follow a scenic trail along the Slim River, a great area for spotting wildlife. If we’re lucky, we’ll get to photograph mountain goats—ancient survivors of the last Ice Age that still roam these ridges.

Day 6 – Back to the Dall Sheep
Another opportunity to spend time with the Dall sheep. If the conditions or their location aren’t ideal, we’ll explore alternative spots to photograph wildlife in equally stunning settings.

Day 7 – Drive to Haines & First Bald Eagles
We’ll set off early to enjoy the golden light along the route and maximize wildlife encounters. Depending on what we find on the way, we may already begin photographing bald eagles upon arrival in Haines.

Days 8 to 11 – All About the Eagles
These four days are dedicated to the spectacular gathering of bald eagles.
After breakfast, we’ll head out before sunrise and spend the daylight hours capturing their aerial displays. With shorter days in this season, we’ll make the most of every hour.
We’ll scout out the best photography spots—changing locations as needed—and with a bit of luck, we might witness grizzlies catching the last salmon in the snow.
Your guide will assist with carrying gear if needed and share helpful photography tips throughout the trip.

Day 12 – Return to Whitehorse
We’ll make our way back to Whitehorse, aiming for a smooth and scenic drive with wildlife stops along the way. Final night in town before your flight home the next day.

Practical Information

This trip is open to anyone ready to immerse themselves in a wild and natural environment. Most wildlife viewing sites are easily accessible and do not require any particular level of physical fitness. The only exception is the outing to see the Dall sheep, whose mountain habitat may involve a steep and challenging climb. Good physical condition and proper hiking footwear are recommended for this specific activity. For the rest of the journey, every drive becomes an adventure in itself, with spontaneous stops whenever wildlife, beautiful light, or breathtaking landscapes appear.

🐾 Weather:

In winter, temperatures can drop below -40°C, so bringing proper cold-weather gear is essential. We recommend layering: a thermal base layer, a warm long-sleeve shirt, a pullover, and a thick winter coat with a hood. Snow boots, thermal leggings with ski pants, a warm hat, glove liners and insulated gloves, a balaclava (to protect your face from frostbite when it’s windy), and a neck warmer are also advised.

🐾 Passport:

Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates.
Don’t forget to apply for your eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization for Canada) and ESTA (for transiting or entering the U.S.) before your trip.

Photography Gear

🐾 Camera body:

Bring at least one camera body that you are comfortable using. Your guide will be available to help with settings or new techniques if needed. A second camera body can be helpful for quick shooting in different situations and avoids exposing your camera sensor to dust during lens changes.

🐾 Lenses:

Focal lengths from 16mm to 600mm will all come in handy. Wide-angle lenses are ideal for landscapes and northern lights photography. A fast aperture (like f/2.8) is a plus for night photography.

For wildlife, there will be some opportunities to get relatively close, so a 70–200mm to 600mm range will cover most needs. A 300mm minimum is recommended.
Keep in mind the crop factor if you’re using an APS-C or micro 4/3 sensor—it can extend your focal range.

🐾 Memory cards:

It’s best to bring multiple memory cards to avoid running out of space. Since we return to the lodge each evening, you can back up your photos to a laptop and external hard drive if you bring them.

🐾 Batteries:

Bring several extra batteries—cold weather drains them quickly. As we’ll have access to electricity every evening, remember to recharge them regularly. Don’t forget your charger and a North American plug adapter (two flat prongs).

🐾 Optional accessories:

  • A pair of binoculars

  • Flash is not recommended to avoid disturbing wildlife

  • Tripod or monopod

  • Cleaning kit (microfiber cloth, brush, air blower)

  • Bean bag (for ground-level stability)—you can purchase rice locally if needed

🐾 Luggage:

We recommend bringing a backpack and a suitcase.

If you’re on medication, keep it with you in your carry-on, along with your prescriptions, in case your checked luggage is delayed or lost. The same goes for your camera gear and batteries—never check them in.
Tripods and monopods, however, should be placed in checked baggage.

⚠️ Important: Be sure to check your airline’s baggage weight limit to avoid additional fees at the airport.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR VISIT !
